Three phases of alcohol and drug detox program

Persistent drug or alcohol consumption accumulates toxics in the body and that’s why body needs detoxification to be free of these toxics. Drug detox or Alcohol detox helps to make body free of the toxics. Detoxification is considered the first phase of some rehab treatment for hard-core substance abusers.

More often successful drug and/or alcohol detox require three to fourteen days and the success of these process also depends on the physical condition of the under treatment person.

Usually an alcohol and drug detox program is carried in three phases. During the first phase, your doctor focuses on your symptoms and handles them according to his/her comfort.

In the second phase, the physical detoxification is required and the patient is told about basic nutrition so that their body may continue to be free of accumulated toxics and regain its momentum with a well balanced diet plan.

In the third and last phase, the patients undergo emotional detoxification and they also know about the emotional reasons behind their drug or alcohol dependency and they find ways to keep them from reasserting their control.

Though alcohol and drug detox programs are quite important for those addicts who want to take control of their lives back, they are mere the first steps towards a long and hard process. In different detox centers, patients are often assisted in issues like pain management, proper nutrition and regular sleep. However, if the psychological aspects of addiction are not tackled in these centers, their efforts to repair a person’s health.

A lifetime of substance abuse may hardly be undone with a two-week alcohol and drug detox program, but still is considered the first step on a lifetime journey and with counseling, proper medication and loving family support patients can recover a bit more quickly everyday.
