Hormones act like a messenger substance in our body and it can bind the cells known as receptor site, where they initiate a chain of specific event. The menstrual is dominated by estrogen in first half cycle, which builds the lining of uterus in preparation for a potential pregnancy. The ovulation is referred to an egg released from the ovaries after day14of the cycle approximately or two weeks prior to the menstruation. The ovary begins to produce progesterone as a result of ovulation.

The progesterone is dominant in this second half cycle. The impotent role of progesterone is to prepare the uterine lining for pregnancy and also to prevent build up of lining by estrogen. If the egg is not fertilized, the level of estrogen and progesterone drops causing sloughing of the uterine lining, or menstruation. For a potential pregnancy the body goes through this cycle every month to ensure a fresh uterine lining.

Cessations of menstruation due to normal declaim in ovarian function. Technically, we can say menopause (or post menopause) occurs when a women has not had her period for 12 consecutive months.
