Weight loss: Diet doesn’t matter a lot

A new study says that no matter whether you are on low fat or low carb diet, they don’t seem to have any effect on weight loss if you don’t burn as much calories as you consume. The study has been published in the Journal Medicinewith

These new findings remind us of the Age of Enlightenment and the law of conversation of energy the concept that has lost now in this fad-diet world.

According to which all diets have not been created as equal. Frank Sacks, who is a professor at Harvard School of Public Health, led that study and he says: “We have found in this study that diets are not simply about losing weight.”

Researchers find link between aggression and obesity in men

According to a new study, people, who are more aggressive, may get more lard than less aggressive people.

Dr. Hermann Nabi, the lead author of the study, says in this connection: “the more aggressive men are, the higher their body mass index (BMI) is and that’s what we find in the follow-up period of this study.” BMI is used to determine whether someone has normal weight, overweight, underweight or obese.

The researchers examined data on more than 6,484 men and women who were taking part in a UK study of health and socioeconomic status. All the participants of the study were in 35-55 years age range. They started with measuring normal scale aggressiveness at the beginning of their study. Their BMI was determined at four different points during 19 years.

Cutting Calories Matter, Not Diet Type; Scientists Say

A new study published in New England Journal of Medicine led by Harvard School of Public Health and Pennington Biomedical Research Center in Louisiana, scientists said that the diet type does not matter but the calorie cut. The study was published in the issue published on Thursday.

This research involved 811 overweight adults who were observed for 2 years. They were randomly put on four diets; one for each. These diets contained different levels of protein, carbohydrates and fats.

Director of the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, which funded the research, Dr. Elizabeth Nabel said, “The hidden secret is it doesn’t matter if you focus on low-fat or low-carb”. She also said that exercise is the key with limiting the calories and burning off more calories.

34% of American Adults are Obese

The number of obese adults in America is much more than the number of those who are simply overweight in accordance to the latest statistics generated by the federal government.

The National Centre for Health Statistics has posted some numbers and according to them nearly 34% of American adults are adults as compared to 32.5% of those who are overweight. It is considered that only 6% of those could be called “extremely obese”.  The NCHS also added that more than one-third of the adult American population or approximately over 72 million people were obese in the year 2005-2006.

These numbers were generated on the basis of a survey where 4356 adults who happen to be above the age of 20 took part in this government health survey, confirmed the NCHS which is also the part of Centre for Disease Control and Prevention. These figures come from the survey conducted in 2005-2006 which is the most recent of all.

Nearby Fast Foods! School Goings Becoming Fat

According to a research report, students who go to schools situated within a half mile of fast food restaurants, have more chances of being overweight and fat. In the research the comparison have been done between the children going to schools which are at a distance from the fast food restaurants.

Drs. Brennan Davis of Azusa Pacific University, Azusa, California and Christopher Carpenter of California at Irvine, wrote in a report that  “Overall, our patterns are consistent with the idea that fast food near schools affects students’ eating habits, overweight, and obesity.” This report was published in the American journal of Public Health.

David Carpenter, in his study used data of 3 years, from 2002 to 2005. This data included students of middle and high school, taken from California Healthy kids Survey, numbering to 500,000 records. He used this information to analyze whether the children become fat due to their specific eating habits or the easy access of fast food restaurants.

High Fat Diet Can Disrupt Circadian-Human Biological Clock

It is stated in ScienceDaily, Dec 31 2008 issue, it is stated: ‘Indulgence in a high-fat diet can not only lead to overweight because of excessive calorie intake, but also can affect the balance of circadian rhythms – everyone’s 24-hour biological clock, Hebrew University of Jerusalem researchers have shown’.

At Hebrew University’s Robert H. Smith Faculty of Agriculture, Food and Environment in Rehovot, Dr. Oren Froy and his colleagues of the Institute of Biochemistry, Food Science and Nutrition have done research work using  lab mice to establish the effects of diet on circadian. Circadian- every one’s biological clock is responsible to control body metabolism and functions of enzymes and hormones.

Least amount of exercise for healthy life

WASHINGTON – The Health and Human services Department (HHS) has provided the, minimum exercise guidelines, vital for good health. For most adults, 2 hours of moderate intense exercise are required, in a weak, to maintain a good health.

Almost 25 percent of U.S. adults are inactive in their spare time, according to the government research. More than half don’t execute physical exertion, enough for a good health and more than 60 million adults are obese.

Generation of children arising in U.S is less active and healthy than their ancestors. One third children are overweight and 16 percent are obese. Schools are gradually decreasing recess and gym time. By high school, a recent study found, less than 25 percent teens are getting an hour of activity a day.

HHS chooses a panel of researchers and professionals to analyze, collective data. The panel concluded that, consistent physical activities can reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke by at least 20 percent, cut down chances of early death, help to avoid hypertension and type 2 diabetes, colon and breast cancer, age related bone fractures, depression and anxiety.

Different people have different requirements of exercise, depending largely upon age and fitness level. Mild exercise adds up for lethargic adults. More fit youngsters could fill up their week’s requirement in an hour with intense exercise, such as jogging, hiking, a bike race or fast laps in the pool.

Frequent Migraines are intense in obese kids, a study concludes

A U.S. study concludes that overweight children and teens have to undergo more frequent and intense Migraines and the severity and intensity of these headaches can be eased by losing weight.

The study was carried out at seven pediatric headache centers and it noted that 34.1 % of patients were obese or had the risk of becoming obese. It was somewhat the same to the rates of obese in the general population of the teens and children.

The researchers examined the data collected on 913 migraines patients in the beginning of the study and after three and six months. They noticed a significant link between obesity and headaches.
