Firstly, nail fungus can be recognized early on if you see discoloration of the tip of your nail – if the tip turns yellow or even black. Then the infection, if left untreated, spreads to the rest of the nail. Usually, nail fungus occurs in the toenails as they are constantly exposed, but fingernails are affected as well. You can get nail fungus from being in or working around wet conditions like swimming pools, shower rooms, etc. Dermatophytes, the tiny organisms that cause the nail fungus get embedded between your nail base and your nail – they destroy the keratin, thus there is no nail protection. Then the fungus spreads.

The first thing you should know is that nails are just dead cuticles of the skin, and more often than not, the ointments that are generally used cannot penetrate into the thickened nails or toenails – therefore they are ineffective in curing the fungus. There are many ointments available in the market like$ Fluconazole, Itraconazole, ZetaClear.

So now let’s get to nail fungus treatment. Firstly, you should always keep your nails clean and dry. Since nail fungus generally occurs on the toenails, avoid wearing your shows too tight, or for prolonged durations of time – as this can cause perspiration and the gradual build-up of fungus. Don’t borrow a nail cutter off people, as this transfers fungus.
