Arthroscopic surgery is useless for knee Osteoarthritis

WEDNESDAY, (HealthDay News) – Wildly practiced arthroscopic surgery, to treat osteoarthritis of the knee, proves ineffective without medical and physical therapy, new research shows.

This is the second major study that has challenged the benefits of the surgery, and it may well influence how patients are treated.

“There’s going to be a swing in practice,” said Dr. Brian Feagan, co-author of a study in the Sept. 11 issue of the New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM).

Providentially, there are still plenty of options available for the 27 million people in the U.S who suffer from osteoarthritis.
