According to some researchers, a change Medicare policy may create problems for black patients to undergo dialysis.

Under this new policy dialysis units will have to cover injectable medications as well as dialysis under a single payment while previously both these services were reimbursed in separate.

Low hemoglobin or anemia is a more common condition in black kidney patients than the white one and black patients often require treatments with expensive ESAs to enhance the levels of hemoglobin in their blood. A recent study shows that black dialysis patients require nearly 11% higher ESAs dose than the white patients.
