CHICAGO – new study of National Guard and Reserve combat troops in Iraq and Afghanistan suggest that they are developing drinking troubles than active-duty soldiers.

The authors consider that the reason of alcohol is insufficient training for the stress of war and reduced contact to support services at home.

American Medical Association Journal report is the first to compare Iraq and Afghanistan veterans’ alcohol problems before and after deployment.

This study can help for future planning of prevention and treatment programs, said Dr. Edward Boyko, co-author.
