It is most common in, around 80% of teenagers, between the ages of 13 – 18 years. Surveys conclude that 3 out of every 10 teenagers have severe skin acne and require acne treatment to prevent permanent scarring specially on face.

Acne

Acne is a skin disease resulting due to inflammation of skin glands (sebaceous glands) and hair follicles. It is characterized by the form of lesions or pimples mostly on the face, upper neck and chest. Irrespective of the sex, it equally occurs in both men and women, but youngster aged of 17 suffer the most intense form.

Common Causes of Acne

Acne normally caused by high level of specific hormones known as androgens typically during adolescence. With elevated hormone levels, the sebaceous glands in the hair follicles produce more sebum than required.

Sebum not only lubricate and protect skin, it also helps to eliminate dead cells from hair follicles. When excessive sebum is released and the extra cells bunch together, the resultant plug blocks the hair follicles openings.

Acne lesions are also called comedones, inflammatory papules, pustules and nodules. Few large nodules were previously called “cysts” and nodulocystic has been derived for the sever case of inflammatory acne, including rupturing of follicle, inflammation, puss.

Symptoms of Acne

Acne can be classified into two groups, inflammatory and non-inflammatory and may exhibit itself in different forms, ranging from blackheads to cysts filled with puss. People suffering with inflamed acne may get victim of severe skin damage and scarring so it’s uttermost to treat acne as soon as possible. Due to acne, there are more chances of bacterial inflammation which causes redness, pain and swelling in the affected areas.

How to treat acne?

A vast range of acne treatments that work are available to treat acne and secondary infections. In fact there are two forms of treatment, topical treatments and oral medication. Mild acne can be treated with self care measures or home remedies and with topical treatment, but severe acne cases, most of the time, require the special attention of dermatologists and may require strong antibiotics along with the topical treatment. Treatment for more severe cases of acne may prolong up to eight weeks before results are visible.

The right choice of treatment can minimize the risk of skin damage or scarred from acne. Usual anti-acne products remove follicle plugs and open the blocked pores, remove excess sebum and inhibit the growth of bacteria and reduce the common factors that cause the skin disorder like acne.
