Obesity epidemic: Rate of new diabetes cases gets doubled in 10 years
In United States, the rates of new cases of type 2 diabetes have got nearly doubled in the last 10 years and most of these cases appearing in southern states, according to federal officials report.
From 1995 to 1997, new diagnosis of type 2 diabetes were 4.8 per people and from 2005 to 2007, they rose to 9.1 per 1000 people. Officials say that this increase in new cases is the result of high obesity rates, as it’s a leading cause of the blood sugar disease.
Study author Karen Kirtland, who is a data analysts in CDC’s Division of Diabetes Translation, says: “Obesity and inactivity are to major risk factors for type 2 diabetes and we it’s a known fact that South has a high prevalence of physical inactivity and obesity if compared to the other parts of the country.”
“People, who are at risk for the disease, can delay or prevent it by losing weight, making healthy food choices and being physically active.” Kirtland added.
The study has been published in the Oct.31 issue of the CDC’s Morbidity and Mortality Report. To collect data on new diabetes cases in 33 states, Kirtland and team used the CDC’s Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System.

The story on type 2 diabetes (adult-onset) in the old days, always says, “obesity is related to type 2 diabetes”. If that is true, almost ALL OVERWEIGHT PEOPLE should have diabetes. People who are obese because of high fat consumption WON’T BE DIABETIC, but those who live on “convenience” foods super-refined, sugar laden, and chemically loaded, WILL BE. STOP EATING GARBAGE FOOD. There is no patriotism in capitalism, so you will be sold any garbage that will be the most profitable to the junk makers. The so called “health authorities” will never say outright to STOP EATING JUNK FOODS ,but will ALWAYS tell you to TRY to limit your SNACKS. Just trying is O.K.
