Tropical climes trips may double your joys in holidays, but before jetting off to these sun-drenched climes you must consider how you can guard your kids’ health.

“In many developing tropical countries, tainted water and food often serve as a serious threat to the visitors particularly kids. Similarly, insects which carried diseases are also common at these places.  Many region-specific vaccines for yellow fever, typhoid fever and hepatitis A are available these days and if you want your trips comfortable, you should vaccinate your kids as well as yourself against these diseases,” says Dr. Andrea Summer, a pediatrics professor at South Carolina University.

Aside from this, children must be updated for all regular vaccinations like yearly flu shot.

But parents must keep in mind that vaccination is just only a single way to protect kids and they need to take other measure to avoid kids from diseases during tropical trips and Summer offers the following tips for it.

  1. In many underdeveloped tropical countries, animals are not vaccinated and they can carry various transmittable diseases like rabies. So avoid your kids from animal contact.
  2. In these countries you would find hell of mosquitoes so you need to use long pants, full sleeve shirts and bed nets.
  3. Parents must bring safety devices when their kids are going for some water sport
  4. In different underdeveloped countries booster seat and car seats for kids are not available, so parents must bring these things with them.
