If you have tried every diet and exercise to get rid of your excessive lard and couldn’t get the desired results, restrictive surgery like adjustable gastric banding or lapband system may serve as the right option for you. Many people want to know how adjustable gastric banding works and the answer is simple that the surgeons reduce the size of the stomach by utilizing a variety of techniques. Following restrictive surgery, a person eats less, feels faster and thus loses weight.

Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Banding and vertical banded gastroplasty are two common kinds of restrictive surgery.

Laparoscopic gastric banding is also known as gastric banding or lap banding and it is considered the second most common weight loss surgery following gastric bypass.

With the help of laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding, you can reduce almost 40 of your weight on average, it means someone with 200 pounds overweight, can expect to reduce 80 pounds on average after gastric banding. But the thing, you must keep in mind that these results are different in different people and they are widely depending on the person.

A nice thing about gastric banding is that it’s not only the least invasive form of weight loss surgery but also the safest too. This process can also be reversed if necessary and the stomach returns to its normal size soon.

In the surgical procedure, the adjustable gastric band is placed in the stomach in such a way as its creates a small pouch at the very top of the stomach that can hold almost 50ml. Usually this developed fills quickly when you consume some food and the passage of the food from the top to the bottom of the stomach acts quite sluggishly with the food.

There are certain conditions when this surgery is not performed particularly if the patients have some untreated glandular disease such as hypothyroidism (low thyroid), this surgery is not usually recommended.
