Extract from grape seed may help treating blood cancers
The results of a new study show that extract from grape seed helped killing more than 75% leukemia cells within 24hrs during a laboratory test. According to some experts these findings may prove quite effective to treat blood cancers.
Researchers from the University of Kentucky discovered that this extract from grapes becomes the cause of activating a protein known as JNK. This protein normalizes the pathway of cell-signaling which becomes the cause of cells’ death.
The study has been published in the Journal Clinical Research Jan.1 issue.
“The results could be applied to find out some agents like grape seed extract in preventing and treating blood and other possible cancers,” says Xianglin Shi, the lead author of the study.
However, Shi said that their study was preliminary and it was quite early to say that it would prove chemo-protective.
The results of some previous studies have also shown that consuming a rich amount of fruits and vegetables can be helpful to avoid cancers. Now this study suggests that the extract from grape seed can kill cancer cell as well as reduce some tumors.
The researchers also noticed that this extract was ineffective when another agent was added in it that reserved the JNK protein.
