Ethnic Groups Heading For Cosmetic Procedures More Than Caucasians: (2008 Records)

The 2008 Records of ASPS plastic surgery show that cosmetic surgery trends have gained more popularity amongst ethnic patients.

According to American Society of Plastic Surgeons i.e., ASPS’s released stats, the cosmetic surgery procedures in ethnics raised up to 11%. On the contrary the percentage dropped down to 2% among Caucasians. Amongst ethnics, the largest growth was seen in Hispanics with an 18% increase.

Hispanics consisted of 10% with 12% million cosmetic plastic surgery procedures done through 2008, out of 1.3 million procedures. African Americans received 8% with 910,000 procedures, raised to 10% and Asians calculated as 7% with 866,000 procedures, rising up to 5%.

Raquel Laurent, 41 years of age is a Mexican American has undergone cosmetic surgery treatment; an example of increasing trend amongst Hispanics to look great and full of positive energies. She herself state about her treatment of injectable filler and light laser skin resurfacing, that she is interested in investing in  cosmetic procedures that can last for months.

The least invasive procedures have also seen rising during 2008, so it is not a striking amazement that people like Laurent are opting for them. Injectable fillers and facial rejuvenation procedures are amidst the most adopted least invasive procedures.

ASPS President MD John Canady exclaims that the thought of becoming socially graceful and the progression in surgical procedures aggravate patient’s interest to go for facial improvements while being ethnic. Whereas most of the patients remain sticking to their Caucasian look, the whole profile of the typical patient is undergoing changes.

ASPS Member Surgeon MD Tripti Burt is involved in many such procedures and Laurent’s treatment too. She says that laser skin resurfacing and chemical peels can bring about remarkable outcomes if performed by an authenticated professional. In adverse cases, non professional can expose the patient to pigment irregularities and scarring.
