Defibrillator and Precautions After Implantation

With the passing of each day, our viscera (internal body organs) get stressed. But especially in the case of key part of the circulatory system, heart, scientists have developed the remarkable devices for the continuous beating of the heart. Among these devices defibrillator is the one, which have saved life of so many people since 1947. But unfortunately defective defibrillator leads to the death as five death cases have already been reported.

Defibrillation is the process used to treat the life-threatening heart arrhythmias and in ventricular tachycardia. In this procedure an electric dose is being given by the defibrillator to the affected heart. This electric pulse depolarizes the mass of the cardiac muscles, cease the arrhythmia and reestablish the normal rhythm of the natural pacemaker of body, in the sinoartrial node of the heart.

Defibrillator works well in the presence of other instruments. However, while working with heavy industrial or electrical machinery, it could be harmful. So there is a restriction that if you are implanted with defibrillator you have to make sure that the equipment which you are going to use is in excellent working condition. This caution is essential while using machinery especially that generate magnetic field.

The important precaution you should take in case of implanted defibrillators that if you are working with such machinery that can interfere with your defibrillator device it should not harm you in case you become unconscious. That is why you have to consult your doctor first before handling any machinery.

There are some things, you must avoid, after the implantation of defibrillator. If you work with chainsaws, after the implantation you are no longer allowed to work with it as the spark come close to your body parts and these can interrupt the pacing function of the device. Also try to stay away from high electro-magnetic fields such as radio towers, power plants and heavy generators.
