Some previous studies have suggested a link between gum disease treatment and the risk for premature birth in women, but now a US study discards any such link and finds that treatment of gum diseases does not reduce the risk of premature delivery in a woman.

Because of these earlier studies, different health care providers and insurers have been recommending pregnant women to undergo dental cleaning to decrease their risk for premature delivery.

In this study, 1800 those pregnant women were included who had some periodontal disease. The women were divided into two groups: One group was given periodontal treatment before the gestation of 23 weeks, while the other group wasn’t given any treatment.

The researchers didn’t find any significant difference in neonatal and obstetric outcomes of these two groups. The study will be presented at the annual meeting of the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine, in San Diego.

You must have heard about type1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes, but the least existing form of diabetes is gestational diabetes. If you are pregnant and during pregnancy you develop diabetes that condition is referred to gestational diabetes or GDM.

In accordance with the normal procedure alimentary canal digest the carbohydrate of food into glucose and absorb into blood. Glucose is the key source of the energy of human body.

After that, the essential organ of the body ‘pancreas’ release hormone called insulin, that get the glucose from blood and provide them to the body cell for proper functioning.

Development of diabetes refer to the state, that either your body in not producing enough protein or your body cells are not recognizing the insulin present in your body, that is why they are not using it in the way they should.

Most of smokers don’t know that even third-hand smoke can be dangerous for babies and pregnant women, a US study finds.

Different contaminations in cigarette smoke can stick to hair or fabrics, but in this survey of 1,500 people, it was noticed that even less than half of smokers were aware of that fact.

Only one third had a strict rule regarding not to smoke in their house, the journal Pediatrics report suggests.

Tommy’s, the UK baby charity, says that it is quite important for pregnant women to be alerted.

There is a lot of evidence, which shows that second-hand can be risky for health and especially for kids and most of parents seem to adopt a policy of not smoking in the presence of their kids.

But Jonathan Winickoff, a Professor at Massachusetts Hospital, says that it doesn’t provide complete protection.

Pregnancy in terms of trimesters

Pregnancy brought many hormonal physical and emotional changes in the body. Normally doctors divide the pregnancy stages in tree phases widely known as three trimesters of the pregnancy.

First trimester

During the first three months of pregnancy, or the first trimester, woman body experiences many changes. As body adjusts to the developing baby, women may have the feeling of nausea, fatigue, backaches, mood swings, and stress. These things are all normal pregnancy signs. term

Most of these start to disappear as the pregnancy progresses. It may occur to some women that they don’t feel any of these discomforts at all. If you have already experienced the pregnancy before for several times, you might feel differently this time around. Just as each woman is different, so is each pregnancy.

As body changes start to occur, you will have to make changes to your normal, everyday routine.

Second trimester

Pregnancy steroids may cause smaller babies

Researchers warn that pregnant women, who are at the risk of early delivery, shouldn’t be given high dosages of steroids.

These steroids help to boost lung development of the fetus and thus enhance the possibilities of survival.

However, the results of the study that include 1800 women show that increased doses of steroids don’t prove effective and they can become the cause of bearing babies smaller in size.

Researchers from Mount Sinai Hospital, Toronto Canada write in the Lancet that doctors must try to follow a single course of treatment.

Dr. Kellie Murphy, who led the study, says: “Doctors, these days, start giving more doses of steroids when pregnant women don’t have the delivery after one course of treatment.”
