Metabolism and Internal Clock are Interlinked

Posted: March 20th 2009 By editor1         under: Health News     Tags: , , , ,

A new research has discovered a new composite which acts vitally in the co-ordination of circadian clock and metabolic activities in the body. Cycles of feeding, activity and sleep are ruled by the circadian clock.

The discovery of the compound may prove helpful in offering a new medication target to cure metabolic problems in the consequences of any disruption in the circadian clock due to obesity, shift work or diabetes.

Genes of circadian clock powerfully control the manufacturing of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD), which adjust the action of an enzyme called SIRT1-an important controller of metabolism, aging and long life, a study on laboratory mice demonstrated.

Discovery of the connection exists between the circadian clock and metabolism among animals could help understanding of circadian distractions which often distress the elderly.

To control the rate of metabolism force our daily cycles, NAD is the key nutrient in the human body. If the vital composite becomes messed up, and regular cycles in routine will also get messed up which may bring serious disorders and influence the process of aging. So, it is essential to keep up this compound and its trail.

A new study has warned obese people about the danger of taking off years from life due to obesity. The researchers said being obese could be as harmful in some cases as smoking so, this is the call of time to make conscious the people about the underlying dangers undergoing weight gain. It may be a reasonable thought to lose weight, if someone is following obesity, one of the researchers suggests.

To measure the level of obesity, the studies used (BMI)-Body Mass Index. It was found that death ratio was lowest in those who were on the high part of obesity on the normal range and had a BMI from 23 to 24.

Overweight people are generally defined as those having BMI of 25 to 29, and the level of obesity is to have above 30 BMI.

Key Hormone to Restore Reproductive Cycle

A new research has discovered a hormone which could vitally serve as an efficient and less risky reproductive treatment. kisspeptin could restart the reproductive cycle of the women with low levels of sex hormones.

The therapy found of kisspeptin would efficiently re-awake the reproductive system by addressing the root problem successfully. Lack of this key hormone results in the sexual immaturity in humans and animals. Kisspeptin could be a key to stimulate the release of the hormones known to control the reproductive cycle, the researchers said.

In a former research scientists found kisspeptin treatment effective in manufacturing of sex hormones in fertile women. The new research focused it on the infertile women whom menstrual cycle had been shut down. Results of the blood samples from the women being injected or given a saline solution of kisspeptin were surprising. Levels of two vital hormones necessary for fertility and ovulation-follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinising hormone (LH) have been increased surprisingly.

Decompression Chamber Relieves Autism in Children

Researchers stated that a hyperbaric oxygen therapy chamber or decompression chamber can be helpful for the children suffering from Autism. Children showed significant improvement in social dealings and better eye contact with others after the 40 hours of hyperbaric oxygen vessel treatment.

The long-lasting results have yet to be proven that require more research work, U.S. researchers said.

In this treatment patient spend more time in concentrated oxygen vessel and inhale more oxygen through nose and skin which compensate the deficiency of oxygen hence promote the movement of more oxygenated blood flow towards the brain. It also has some proven results in other diseases like cerebral palsy and foetal alcohol syndrome.

According to an online publication on Wednesday in the medical journal, ‘Lancet Oncology’ that with screening women for ovarian cancer enabled doctors to detect the disease almost two years prior, than in ordinary screening routine. Around 100,000 women are killed each year by ovarian cancer.

It has been a continuous search by the Scientists to find ovarian cancer occurrence earlier, which can save almost 90 percent of women. Whereas, currently women are diagnosed after the disease has spread leaving only 30 percent chances of survival.

To conduct the study 200,000 post menopausal women aged 50 to 74 were enrolled covering 2001 to 2005 records from U.K.  Out of these 100,000 women did not receive any screening tests, whereas almost 50,000 underwent blood test screening. In case of finding an abnormality the women then underwent an ultrasound. Rests of the 50,000 women were screened through ultrasound.

According to a new research study in the March issue of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery, summer season has higher risks for dog bites in children. The risked bites are severe bites in the head and neck areas, as told by researchers.

In this recent study researchers analyzed 84 cases of dog bites in children, amongst which dog bite injury cases caused by family pets were 27 percent. The percentage of the most hit areas were lips up to 21 percent, nose and both ears up to 8 percent and cheeks up to 34 percent.

The study results showed that children were wounded in more than one location with an average wound size measuring up to 7.15 centimeters.

In the research it was also found that most bite cases involved Pit bulls. Research authors recommended accurate and timely dog bites reporting to help local health officials. It can guide to develop dog bite trends identification and prevention methods.

Dizzy After Two Drinks! Older Adults Tend To Impair With Few Drinks

A report from University of Florida research group published in Journal of Studies on Alcohol and Drugs, states that older people taking a drink or two may become more impaired than they suppose, afterwards.

68 nonsmokers were involved in the study in two groups. One group aged 50 to 74 which was compared to the other group aged 25 to 35, with one drink at least, per month. To some of the peoples involved were given placebo which was not a breath alcohol levels elevator, whereas some were served with alcohol.

They were carefully monitored keeping in view their history of alcohol consumption, demographic characteristics, body mass index, and gender. The participants had to go the tests in different phases after alcohol was given. Phases consisted of 25 minutes and 75 minutes post alcohol intake required participants to draw lines without lifting the pen from the paper, connecting dots with numbers and letters in sequence. They were checked for the number of mistakes they made.

Short-Course Radiation with Surgery – the Best Cure of Rectal Cancer

Posted: March 6th 2009 By editor1         under: Cancer, Health News     Tags: , , , ,

A new research has suggested that short-course radiation tracked by high-quality surgery could be the best way to treat operable rectal cancer. Surgery is considered as the best treatment for rectal cancer but it leaves the risk of cancer to be reappeared.

It was concluded from a former study that chemotherapy and radiotherapy can minimize the risk of cancer recurrence if they are applied after surgery. But radiotherapy is not considered as a good option because of it’s a high cost treatment and the long term complications like incontinence, sexual dysfunction and impaired bowel function can be occurred in its consequences.

Weight loss: Diet doesn’t matter a lot

A new study says that no matter whether you are on low fat or low carb diet, they don’t seem to have any effect on weight loss if you don’t burn as much calories as you consume. The study has been published in the Journal Medicinewith

These new findings remind us of the Age of Enlightenment and the law of conversation of energy the concept that has lost now in this fad-diet world.

According to which all diets have not been created as equal. Frank Sacks, who is a professor at Harvard School of Public Health, led that study and he says: “We have found in this study that diets are not simply about losing weight.”

Tentative Drug May Moisten Severe Asthma

Posted: March 5th 2009 By editor1         under: Health News     Tags: , , , , ,

A new experimental drug is found helpful to ease the severe asthma attacks which are often controlled by oral steroids. Two studies have observed that the regular use of mepolizumab not only reduces asthma aggravations but also the people under experimental use had been noticed with the decreased levels of eosinophils-the white blood cells considered as a probable reason of asthma.

The phenomenon involves the blockage of a protein interleukin-5, the vital part for the growth of eosinophils. Though the exact functioning of eosinophils is not known exactly, it has long been found that its levels rise during asthma exacerbations.

Both the studies observed that mepolizumb reduced aggravations in severe prednisone-dependent asthma and along with the improvement in the quality of life. Moreover the people on mepolizumb were capable to cut the dosage of prednisone to cure the severe asthma attacks.
