Caesarean babies have a 20% higher risk of developing type1 diabetes, a new study suggests.

According to a report published in PubMed journal, babies who born under caesarean section have a 20% higher risk of getting type 1diabetes than the babies born naturally.

Type1 diabetes can start in early childhood and it is on rise in many European countries because of some unknown factors.

The researchers from Queen’s University Belfast worked on 20 previous studies and suggested that contact with hospital bacteria instead of material bacteria in delivery may be the real culprit.

In general, the risk of developing type1 diabetes in babies is found in three out of every one thousand babies.

In the UK, there are almost 250,000 people with type1 diabetes. While type2 diabetes that develops later in life is found in more than two million people.

Almost an average 24% of deliveries in the UK are made by Caesarean section and they are quite higher than 15% recommended by the World Health Organisation.

Most of the cases are done to protect mother or baby in delivery, but a study suggests that doctors often seem to recommend Caesareans too quickly in some cases.

Lead researcher Dr Chris Cardwell says in this connection, “Our study identifies a consistent 20% increase in the risk of diabetes.  All women haven’t the choice to have a Caesarean or not, but those who have they must consider the involved risk in that procedure.”

Caesarean babies are quite unfortunate with this kind of finding as type 1 diabetes is very harmful and it has no major cure. The parents of these kind of babies should take all kind of precautions to prevent any further development and turning his kind of diabetes into a major problem.
