Excess of everything is bad. To work for better life style and to achieve specific goals, one has to work really hard. But one becomes worried when he is unable to achieve what he expects or what is expected from him. These worries take the form of excessive stress, depression and distress if not managed properly. The heightened form of stress is termed as General Anxiety Disorder; GAD.

GAD is not a result of some specific stress condition, but it is the stress condition that arises from life’s mundane pursuits. These include worries about health concerns, work tensions, school work tensions, time keeping issue, issue of meeting deadlines, social and relation problems e.t.c. GAD effects a person’s health a great deal, and daily life becomes effected.

Why is GAD caused? A number of causes have been mentioned including genetics, unrealistic view of problems, genetics, brain problems and stress conditions around a person. Yet, the exact cause has not been found.

Environmental factors include trauma, shock and stressing incidents, such as the death of a loved one, breaking of a relationship; divorce, forcibly changing job or school. Some people rely on caffeine and nicotine based products to the extent of addiction, to fight stress and anxiety. Withdrawal from such things can also trigger stress and panic.

Evident physical symptoms can inform you that you are facing GAD. For example, stressed muscles, aching muscles, fatigue, palpitation, sweat, problem in swallowing, blushing time and again, feeling hot at different intervals throughout the day, trembling, shivering, nausea, headache, stomach pain, difficulty in sleeping and waking up in the morning, and irritated attitude.

One of the important symptoms is getting perturbed in crowds (commonly known as socio phobia). To establish the diagnosis of GAD in person, it is necessary that the person has under gone theses symptoms for six months continuously.

Generally people fail to manage any crisis, and can’t keep themselves calm and they undergo an anxiety attack.  Some researchers have claimed that GAD is a genetic disorder. It can start from childhood. It can pass on to generations as a family attitude and tendency to handle particular crisis to handle certain situations with a particular mindset.

It is also suggested that women are more victims of GAD comparatively. The anxiety factor has grave impacts on health. People can become seriously ill, both physically and mentally. GAD is condition that is basically related to mental functions and emotional but consequently they damage the body physically.

The brain uses neurotransmitters to transfer message from one cell to another. If the neurotransmitters malfunction, the brain cannot communicate and work properly. GAD has widely been associated with the malfunctioning of neurotransmitters.

Nearly half of the GAD patients are sent for psychological treatments. Consulting a psychiatrist is very helpful for most of the patients. Doctors at the first instance advise the patient for various medical examinations to establish any physical illness caused due to GAD, or vice versa, any physical illness that might be causing GAD.

Researches have shown that psycho therapy is more beneficial in GAD than drug therapy. One must make himself strong enough to counter different situations. If a person lacks such strength, then he must seek professional help to avoid GAD and remain healthy and happy.
