Periodontal treatment doesn’t decrease premature delivery risk
Some previous studies have suggested a link between gum disease treatment and the risk for premature birth in women, but now a US study discards any such link and finds that treatment of gum diseases does not reduce the risk of premature delivery in a woman.
Because of these earlier studies, different health care providers and insurers have been recommending pregnant women to undergo dental cleaning to decrease their risk for premature delivery.
In this study, 1800 those pregnant women were included who had some periodontal disease. The women were divided into two groups: One group was given periodontal treatment before the gestation of 23 weeks, while the other group wasn’t given any treatment.
The researchers didn’t find any significant difference in neonatal and obstetric outcomes of these two groups. The study will be presented at the annual meeting of the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine, in San Diego.
13% US adults are diabetics, study reveals
According to an analysis of data on diabetes in the US shows that nearly 13% people aged 20 and above have diabetes and nearly 40% among them have not been diagnosed yet.
In a previous study, the rates of undiagnosed people were almost the same, but this study shows a larger proportion of diabetics than found in that previous study.
Catherine C. Cowie, the lead author of the study, says in this connection: “It can be said without any doubt that the cases of diagnosed diabetes have considerably increased that were 5.1% from 1988 to 1994 and were 7.7% from 2005 to 2006. It has been also observed that the cases of diagnosed diabetes have increased in African-Americans particularly.”
“While, the number of undiagnosed and pre-diabetes cases is still quite stable with 30% and it’s, indeed, a good news,” Catherine added. “If the cases of undiagnosed diabetes remain the same and diagnosed cases go up, it means we are doing a good job in detecting these cases.”

Gestational Diabetes and diet plan during pregnancy
You must have heard about type1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes, but the least existing form of diabetes is gestational diabetes. If you are pregnant and during pregnancy you develop diabetes that condition is referred to gestational diabetes or GDM.
In accordance with the normal procedure alimentary canal digest the carbohydrate of food into glucose and absorb into blood. Glucose is the key source of the energy of human body.
After that, the essential organ of the body ‘pancreas’ release hormone called insulin, that get the glucose from blood and provide them to the body cell for proper functioning.
Development of diabetes refer to the state, that either your body in not producing enough protein or your body cells are not recognizing the insulin present in your body, that is why they are not using it in the way they should.
How Smoking Can Cause Wrinkles
The phenomena ‘whether smoking cause wrinkles’ is very old. After the vast research work, scientifically, it has been proven that smoking does cause skin wrinkles. It speeds up the natural aging process of skin that is why wrinkles start to appear at relatively younger age.
Smoking doesn’t cause acute effects on the skin but you can see a significant difference, after ten year between the skin of smokers and non smokers. Another adverse effect of smoking generated wrinkles, these are irreversible.
Smoking is the second most leading cause of wrinkles after sun exposure. It inhibits the take up of Vitamin A and C which are essential for skin protection. It occurs because the nicotine of cigarettes promotes dehydration.
Nicotine limits the blood supply to the outermost layer of the skin by narrowing it. This obstacle creates the deficiency of oxygen and outer essential nutrients such as Vitamin A. It also harms collagen and elastin fibers of skin which gives the elasticity to the skin.
Heat generated from cigarette burning cause skin irritation around the eyes and put more strains on the eyes of the smoker. This strain increases the wrinkles on face especially around the eyes. Smokers also develop hollow cheeks with the extensive smoking.
The affects of smoking on skin make doctors to believe that there is a relation between chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and wrinkles in mouth. If you have spent fifteen to twenty years with smoking you may feel that in your late 30’s your skin resemble to the nonsmoker who is in 50’s.
Remember! No cream or treatment have developed, till-to-date that can remove wrinkle caused by cigarette smoking, but the situation may get better is you quit smoking. If you are not going to quit and trying to get smoother skin through, you are just wasting your time and money as no cream, moisturizer or even surgical procedure can restore your smooth skin.
If you left your habit, it also has some additional benefits such as it improve the both quality and quantity of life and also prevent the risk of lung diseases and heart related issues, cancer etc.
After quitting smoking, you should concentrate on a healthy diet and regular physical workout. This intervention will make the blood circulation fast and will replenish the skin with more nutrition and oxygen. You should also limit the use of alcohol as it dehydrates skin too. Add a good supplement of Vitamin A and C as key ingredient to your diet as this will fill up the deficiency of elastin and collagen fiber. and avoid drinking alcohol or caffeine as this also dehydrates the skin.
